Goonja Tanna is a certified Psychologist at Medavas with 3+ years of clinical experience based in Ahmedabad, India. Available for confidential one-on-one sessions in Gujarati, Hindi, English.
Hello, I am Goonja, a Psychologist based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad, followed by a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU Baroda).
My education in psychology has helped me develop an understanding of human behaviour, emotional experiences, thought patterns, and interpersonal relationships. I believe that people can experience similar situations in very different ways, which is why I prefer to understand each individual’s concerns, experiences, and personal circumstances before working towards their goals.
As a psychologist, I am interested in helping individuals develop a better understanding of themselves, improve their emotional awareness, and build healthier relationships. My areas of interest include personal growth, self-awareness, self-esteem, emotional regulation, stress management, anxiety, depression, communication difficulties, boundary setting, interpersonal relationships, and relationship concerns.
I have a particular interest in supporting adolescents and middle-aged individuals who may be experiencing personal, emotional, social, or relationship-related concerns.
Self-understanding can be an important starting point for personal development. At times, people may notice repeated thoughts, reactions, or behaviours without fully understanding what is behind them.
I encourage clients to take time to explore their thoughts, feelings, experiences, values, strengths, and personal needs. Guided reflection can help individuals recognise patterns and understand how these patterns may affect their choices, emotional responses, and relationships.
My focus is on helping clients develop greater clarity about themselves rather than judging their thoughts or experiences. Understanding both strengths and areas that need attention can help individuals make more conscious decisions and work towards realistic personal goals.
The way we perceive ourselves can influence many areas of life, including relationships, communication, decision-making, and personal development. Self-doubt and excessive self-criticism can sometimes make it difficult for individuals to recognise their own strengths.
I help clients explore the factors that influence their self-perception and encourage them to develop a more balanced understanding of themselves. This may involve recognising personal strengths, understanding limitations, challenging unhelpful self-judgements, and becoming more accepting of one's individual journey.
My aim is to help clients develop confidence based on self-understanding rather than constant comparison or external approval.
Emotions can sometimes feel difficult to understand or communicate, particularly during stressful situations or periods of change. Learning to identify what we are feeling and what may be contributing to those feelings can make emotional experiences easier to navigate.
I work with clients on developing greater emotional awareness and understanding their individual emotional patterns. We explore how emotions may influence thoughts, reactions, communication, and relationships.
I provide a supportive space where clients can discuss their experiences openly. The focus is on developing healthier ways of responding to emotions and building skills that can be useful in everyday situations.
Boundaries help individuals communicate what they are comfortable with and what they need within different relationships. However, setting boundaries can sometimes feel uncomfortable, especially when a person is worried about disappointing others or creating conflict.
I help clients understand their own needs, values, comfort levels, and personal limits. We can explore ways to communicate these boundaries clearly while maintaining respect for other people.
This area of work may include understanding when to say no, expressing personal needs, managing expectations, and dealing with situations where boundaries are not respected. The goal is to help individuals develop relationships where personal well-being and mutual respect can coexist.
Our relationships can influence our emotional well-being in significant ways. Difficulties with communication, trust, expectations, misunderstandings, or unresolved disagreements can sometimes create distance between people.
I help clients look at the patterns within their interpersonal relationships and understand how their own thoughts, emotions, and communication habits may contribute to particular situations.
Sessions may focus on improving communication, understanding different perspectives, managing disagreements, and developing more constructive ways of responding to relationship challenges. The aim is to help individuals create healthier and more meaningful connections with the people around them.
Expressing thoughts and emotions clearly is not always easy. Some individuals may avoid difficult conversations, while others may find themselves reacting strongly when they feel misunderstood or upset.
I support clients in becoming more aware of their communication patterns and finding ways to express themselves with greater clarity. We can explore how to communicate needs, listen effectively, manage differences, and approach disagreements more constructively.
Developing these skills can be useful in family relationships, friendships, professional interactions, and other interpersonal situations.
Adolescence is a period of significant personal and emotional development. During these years, young people may experience changes in their identity, friendships, family relationships, confidence, emotions, and expectations.
I am interested in supporting adolescents as they navigate these experiences. I aim to provide a comfortable and understanding environment where they can express their concerns and explore their thoughts without unnecessary judgement.
Support may focus on areas such as self-confidence, emotional awareness, communication, relationships, personal development, and understanding oneself.
Middle adulthood can involve changes in several areas of life, including family responsibilities, professional expectations, relationships, and personal priorities. These changes can sometimes encourage individuals to reassess their goals, identity, and emotional needs.
I support individuals in using this stage of life as an opportunity for reflection and personal development. Sessions can provide space to understand current concerns, explore relationship patterns, identify personal priorities, and develop healthier ways of managing everyday emotional challenges.
A person's relationship with themselves forms an important part of their overall emotional well-being. Self-care, self-compassion, and self-reflection can help individuals understand their needs instead of constantly ignoring or criticising them.
I encourage clients to pay attention to their own emotional experiences and develop a greater sense of self-understanding. This includes recognising personal needs, acknowledging emotions, appreciating strengths, and accepting areas that may still be developing.
With greater self-awareness, individuals may find it easier to make decisions that are consistent with their values and build healthier relationships with others.
I believe psychological support should be based on the individual's unique experiences rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Each person comes with their own background, personality, relationships, challenges, and goals.
During sessions, I aim to create a supportive, empathetic, confidential, and non-judgmental environment where clients can discuss their concerns comfortably. I encourage clients to actively participate in understanding their experiences and identifying areas they would like to work on.
Depending on the concern, sessions may involve self-reflection, emotional awareness, understanding behavioural patterns, communication work, boundary-setting, relationship-focused discussions, and personal development.
My role is to support clients through this process while helping them develop insights and practical skills that they can apply in their everyday lives.
My areas of interest include:
Self-Awareness and Personal Development
Self-Work and Introspection
Self-Esteem and Self-Acceptance
Emotional Awareness
Emotional Regulation
Healthy Boundary Setting
Communication Skills
Relationship Concerns
Interpersonal Relationships
Conflict Management
Self-Care and Self-Compassion
Personal Growth
Emotional and Social Well-Being
My goal is to help individuals understand themselves with greater clarity and approach their personal and relationship concerns with increased awareness. I believe that personal growth is an ongoing process, and even small changes in the way we understand ourselves can influence the way we respond to situations and connect with others.
Through a compassionate and individual-focused approach, I aim to support clients in developing emotional awareness, stronger self-understanding, healthier boundaries, effective communication, and more balanced relationships.
Whether someone is working through personal concerns, seeking greater self-confidence, trying to understand their emotions, or looking to improve their relationships, I aim to provide a safe space where they can reflect, learn, and work towards meaningful personal growth.
